Need for Speed: Undercover
After several delays and lots of hype, EA’s Need for Speed Undercover (App Store, $9.99) was released last week. Was it worth the wait? Let’s have a quick look at several reviews currently online:
TheAppleBlog:
Despite not really being interested in the import car racing scene, or racing games in general, I really like Need for Speed: Undercover. It has good replay value, lots of unlockables, and customization that amounts to a leveling system. If you’ve passed on every other racing game for the iPhone and iPod Touch to date, this may be the one to get.
Gizmodo:
There’s a good amount of content here, with many races and game modes and a system in place to buy newer and better cars as you advance. It doesn’t feel like a half-game made for the iPhone, and you could put many hours into this thing if you’re a completist. For fans of racers who are looking for a solid game with good graphics and solid controls, this one is definitely worth the scratch.
TapCritic:
Need For Speed Underground is gonna be a hit on the iTunes App store once the word gets out. This is not a “lite” version of a console game, EA is not just name dropping a franchise title like Konami did with Metal Gear Solid Touch. Nope, this is the real deal. This game “feels” like your playing on a console.
Need for Speed Underground is getting lots of rave reviews, and after playing the game for the past week or so, it’s obvious why. The graphics are gorgeous, control system well-implemented and intuitive, and the depth (unlockables, etc) pretty good for a mobile title. At $9.99 it may be on of the more expensive App Store games currently available, but it’s also one of the most fun - and most polished! Highly recommended.
